In this series the artist engages with the country’s cultural history, working with the two most recognisable images of Russia. Through an authorial vision comes a hybridisation, a fusion of one of the most recognisable folk-print cultural markers, the matryoshka, with the imagery of the Russian avant-garde, which was the showcase of Russian culture and profoundly influenced world art of the twentieth century.
